Vocabulary
If you stumble upon any words that you do not know please post a comment and put the word and the description of what you think it means. Then I will try to find the right definition as soon as I can.
The word that I stumbled upon was flywheel on page 99 SENTENCE: The flywheel of the steam engine furnished power to operate numerous hydraulic pumps which evidently made these brass shafts go up and down.
I found that I don't know what Dardanelles mean, on page 174. The book says it like it is a place. SENTENCE: We had warm August and September weather and a magnificent wind, but except for the Dardanelles, we traveled clear across Europe missing every body of water.

I am glad that you asked that because I don't know that either.
DeleteFlywheel means a heavy wheel for regulating the speed of machinery.

ReplyDeleteSENTENCE: As a schoolteacher I was pretty well tied down to a rather monotonous form of urban life.
Urban means living in a city.

It is a strip of water that connects to larger bodies of water.
